1:  Revisit your Subject

I photographed the sunset on the left arriving just before the sun went down just as a reminder to visit this place again.  All the grass in the foreground gave me an idea to return and see what might come of it.  By investing more time in revisiting this area I was able to take the image on the right, an image that I actually enjoy compared to the one on the left that is quite forgettable.  Many times we get caught up in "gotcha" photography where we pass through an area, get the photograph, and that's that.  Revisiting your subjects, whether they be people, wildlife, or places, is really the best way to improving your photographic skills.  It gives you the opportunity to re-evaluate the situation, to look at things from different angles, and to think about the possibilities.
